You Booked Your Move with Dogwood. Now What?

Your move is booked, and you might be wondering how the day will go. When will the movers call? What happens when they arrive? Do you need to know exactly where every piece of furniture belongs?

We want you to feel comfortable with the process before our team ever pulls up. Here’s what you can expect, from your booking confirmation to the final walkthrough.

Before Moving Day

Once your move is booked, you’ll receive a confirmation email confirming your move date and scheduled start time or arrival window. That email also includes important bullet points covering how to prepare, coverage options, what we can and cannot do, and other things to know before moving day.

You’ll receive additional emails leading up to your move with more helpful information. Please take the time to read each one, as you’ll be required to sign acknowledging that you received and reviewed that information on moving day.

If anything is unclear, reply to the emails or give us a call. We’d much rather answer your questions beforehand so you feel prepared when our team arrives.

If anything changes after booking, such as adding furniture, another stop, or packing services, let our office know as soon as possible. Having accurate information helps us send the right team and equipment for your move.

For practical tips on getting ready, take a look at our How to Save Money on Your Move article. Being prepared when the crew arrives helps the day run more smoothly and makes better use of your moving time.

Expect a Call from Your Team Supervisor

On moving day, your team supervisor will call to let you know the crew is headed your way and provide an estimated arrival time.

That call may come from a number you don’t recognize, so keep your phone nearby and be on the lookout. This is also a good time to share any last arrival details, such as a gate code or where the truck should park.

We’ll Start with a Walkthrough

When the team arrives, they’ll confirm an approved parking spot with you and get situated. Then, you and the team supervisor will walk through the home together.

This is your chance to show us what’s going, what’s staying, and anything that needs special attention. If a piece of furniture requires a certain approach or there’s something important that wouldn’t be obvious to us, please point it out.

You know your home and belongings better than we do. The more clearly we understand what matters to you, the better we can plan the day.

We’ll Review the Contract Together

After the walkthrough, your team supervisor will review the moving contract with you and go over the details.

If you have questions, ask. We want you to understand what you’re signing and feel comfortable before we begin moving your belongings.

Once the contract is reviewed and signed, the crew gets to work.

Our Team Gets to Work

From there, the crew will begin wrapping, protecting, and loading your belongings, along with any disassembly included in your move.

You don’t need to direct every step. That’s what your team supervisor is there for. Just stay available in case we have questions, and let us know if something comes to mind while we’re working.

If you have items you plan to take yourself, keep them separate and point them out so they don’t accidentally get loaded. Things like keys, medications, important documents, and anything you’ll need right away are best kept accessible.

One More Walkthrough Before We Leave

Once loading is complete, we’ll do a quick walkthrough with you to confirm that everything intended for the move has been loaded and nothing is being left behind.

This is a good time to check closets, cabinets, the garage, outdoor areas, and anywhere else you had items that needed to go.

Before heading out, the team will also confirm the destination address with you. If there are parking instructions, access codes, or anything else we should know about the next location, we’ll go over those details, too.

Make sure someone will be there to let the crew in and show us where things belong.

Show Us Around Your New Home

At the destination, the team will confirm an approved parking spot and typically do another walkthrough with you to get a general idea of the layout and where your furniture should go.

Some customers have every room planned out, with labeled doors and color coded boxes. Others are still deciding where the couch should go. Both are completely normal.

You don’t need to have every detail figured out. You can direct the team as items come inside. Having a general plan helps, but we understand that sometimes you need to see a piece in the room before deciding where it belongs.

We’ll Do a Final Walkthrough Together

After everything is unloaded, placed, and reassembled as included in your move, your team supervisor will walk through the home with you.

Take your time and make sure things are where you want them. If you’d like a piece moved to another spot, don’t be afraid to say so. We’d much rather adjust it while we’re there than have you trying to move it yourself after we leave.

This is also the time to bring up any questions or concerns so we can address them together.

We always recommend taking a look inside the truck, too. It’s one final check to make sure nothing has been left behind.

Final Paperwork and Payment

Once you’re satisfied with the placement and give your approval, your team supervisor will stop the clock for an hourly move, review the final charges, complete the remaining contract signatures, and collect payment.

If you have a question about the total, ask us to walk through it with you. We want you to understand the final bill before we wrap up.

Then it’s time to settle in and enjoy your new home.

Moving comes with a lot of decisions. Our goal is to make this part feel straightforward. Read the information we send, come prepared, and keep us in the loop. We’ll guide you through the day from there.
